This doc­u­men­tary looks at the sit­u­a­tion of both the home­less & the house­less com­mu­ni­ties in South Africa today and the extent to which these con­stituen­cies of mar­gin­alised people are orga­niz­ing to help them­selves. The cir­cum­stances and con­cerns of res­i­dents neigh­bour­ing home­less com­mu­ni­ties are reflect­ed and the vision for the reha­bil­i­ta­tion of the Johan­nes­burg inner city in the con­text of pro­vid­ing for the home­less and rebuild­ing com­mu­ni­ty life is explored. Efforts by indi­vid­u­als and com­mu­ni­ties to build houses in spite of frus­tra­tions expe­ri­enced with the gov­ern­ment hous­ing sub­sidy process and the slow deliv­ery of hous­ing to the poor­est of the poor, are explored by way of exam­ple in Oukasie, Molteno and the East­ern Cape rural region of Thornhill.
