EGOLI - My South African Home Movie
Germany 1996 | 90 Min. | 16 mm, OmeU
For millions of South Africans the trauma of the past and the poverty of today is a result of their being forced off the land, a process which has occurred over the past 300 years, and in some places, is still taking place. A democratic South Africa was born in 1994, with the promise made that land policies would change. The authors document the start of land reform in the new South Africa. Their film is an evocative journey which takes the viewer across the rural landscape of South Africa, littered with the ruins of past policies, and yet filled with the hopes of those regaining lost land. From Khorixas in Northern Namibia, to Queenstown in the Eastern Cape, farmers and communities share their experiences, hopes and fears.
