Their discussion will range from the training of filmmakers to the possibilities and requirements of film financing and the influence of the target group on film production.
Judy Kibinge left a career in advertising to write and direct both fiction and documentary films. Her film Dangerous Affair (2002) is credited by many as the catalysis of contemporary filmmaking in Kenya. In 2013, she founded DOCUBOX to support independent East African filmmakers with grants, labs and screenings.
Haya Fatima Iqbal, filmmaker and founder of the Documentary Association Pakistan in Karachi and Judy Kibinge, filmmaker and founder of Docubox in Nairobi, Kenya are going to discuss the backgrounds and contexts of documentary filmmaking in their countries. Their conversation will include the training and qualification of filmmakers, the possibilities and demandings of financing as well as the challenge to produce for different audiences.
