Social media and public relations internship at the Freiburger Filmforum: Festival of Transcultural Cinema (Feb-May 2023)

Since 1985, the film forum has been showing contemporary productions from all continents as well as retrospectives from renowned filmmakers. In addition to anthropologically informed films that deal with transcultural topics, our multifaceted and carefully curated program also includes exhibitions, panels, and performances. The festival’s workshop-like character and its small size are appreciated by filmmakers and guests from all over the world. This year, the film forum will take place in hybrid form from the 12th to the 21st of May 2023, combining film screenings in the cinema with live streams and video on demand via a streaming platform.

The expansion of the festival into digital spaces requires an even stronger presence in the social media landscape and a serious commitment to digital public relations. To strengthen our team in this area, we are seeking two interns. As a social media and digital public relations intern, you will contribute creative ideas and offer energetic support in order to attract the best audience possible to our festival. As an organized, independent person who can also work well in a team, you will plan and create social media campaigns and website design as well as expand outreach to the festival’s network of institutions, stakeholders, and audience members in Freiburg and internationally. Creating Instagram posts, planning creative campaigns, developing strategies to win new audience members, editing images, maintaining our website, and coordinating your work with a diverse team will be part of your day-to-day tasks alongside your co-intern. Additionally, you can get involved in other areas of festival organization according to your own interests and experience.

Your daily tasks will involve:

  • planning and implementing social media campaigns to create a lively and meaningful presence on social media as well as strengthen public relations
  • creating a social media calendar, coordinating and scheduling daily/weekly posts on Instagram, Facebook, and through our newsletter
  • copywriting for various social media platforms in English
  • working with image editing software (Photoshop / InDesign) to adapt our design to fit different platforms and formats
  • general festival assistance in other areas of work according to your interests and skills

We are looking for someone who has:

  • passion for and experience with social media (Instagram, Facebook, Vimeo) and fluency in creating posts, stories, or campaigns— or the willingness to familiarize yourself with this area independently
  • experience with image editing software such as Photoshop, Gimp or InDesign and a strong sense of layout and visual design (some experience in video editing would be a plus)
  • confidence and creativity in formulating appealing, creative texts in English
  • ambition to contribute creative ideas, and to execute them both independently and in collaboration with team members

With us you will:

  • get an in-depth look behind the scenes of an internationally renowned film festival and learn how a film festival is planned, organized, and curated
  • contribute and expand your talents and skills in a diverse team and learn new skills in social media management and public relations
  • bring your knowledge of film, anthropology, media/cultural studies, or related subjects into practice

The internship starts at the beginning of February and lasts until May 31, 2023. If you can see yourself excelling in this position, please send your application with a CV and a letter of motivation to by January 31st at the latest.

We are looking forward to hearing from you,

the Freiburger Filmforum team
