Nora has had a strict upbringing. Her familiy comes from Algeria and her parents are rigorous in their maintenance of traditional customes. Nora has learned over the years to make use of ingenious tricks in order to have a little bit of freedom. But when she gets pregnant – by a Frenchman of all people – the game is over.

Now Nora must do everything in her power to find a »father« for this child. Finally she confides in her mother and, with her help, she is introduced to Hamid, managing director of a large fabric shop in town. Naive mama’s boy Hamid is nothing like the kind of husband she envisaged for herself. But there’s nothing else to do, Nora must get married. Things take their course and it seems as if a solution has been found for the problem – until one day the neighbours discover Nora’s »little« secret and the news spread like wildfire…
