Call for Entries Students’ Platform

We are thrilled to announce that the 20th edition of the Freiburger Filmforum will take place from May 27 to June 1, 2025. This year marks a special milestone as the Students’ Platform celebrates its 5th edition at the Freiburger Filmforum. The fresh perspectives and energy brought by students and young filmmakers have significantly enriched the festival and the field of anthropologically informed cinema. In honour of their contributions, we are excited to open the Call for Entries for the Students’ Platform at the upcoming Freiburger Filmforum.

Submit your film under FilmFreeway.

This year, we are looking for works that find a synergy between form and content. These may be films that closely observe the world, drive us into new modes of looking and listening, engage sensitively with the characters, and clarify their intent through the filmmaking process. We are keenly interested in works that engage, challenge and persist through notions of gaze, positionality, ethics and transcultural dialogue.

Special Category

Through this program, the Students’ Platform aims to acknowledge, appreciate, and invite works created under complex conditions of threat, violence and dislocation. Our intention with this special category is to support and celebrate the works of young filmmakers and documentarians (not only documentaries) who respond to history, society, culture, and politics. The festival wishes to also create spaces of solidarity and community for all those who find themselves in compromised situations and locations. We aim to advance individual activism towards strengthened collective responses against the culture of ignoring, silencing, and cancelling.

We seek works that begin as individual reactions but also locate themselves (and their bodies) within the collective. This can be interpreted in various ways through films about filmmaking, films about the self (as a filmmaker), an awareness of the self in spaces of conflict, individual and collective responses to violence, inciting a sense of collective or community, and much more.
