This three-parted film allows maghre­bin­ian immi­grants to speak: fathers (part I), moth­ers (part II) and their chil­dren (part III). With archive­ma­te­r­i­al and inter­views Yas­mi­na Ben­guigui analy­ses the »machin­ery« of immi­gra­tion. While the fathers came in the 50’s with­out their fam­i­lies, lived in huts and worked hard, the moth­ers, who fol­lowed later, removed their veils seek­ing more inde­pen­dence. The chil­dren, most of them already born in France, are even more exposed to the con­tra­dic­tions of the French pol­i­tics of immigration.
