This three-parted film allows maghrebinian immigrants to speak: fathers (part I), mothers (part II) and their children (part III). With archivematerial and interviews Yasmina Benguigui analyses the »machinery« of immigration. While the fathers came in the 50’s without their families, lived in huts and worked hard, the mothers, who followed later, removed their veils seeking more independence. The children, most of them already born in France, are even more exposed to the contradictions of the French politics of immigration.
