Brasilien 1998 | 52 Min. | BetaSP, OmeU

CONFIDENCES FROM THE RIVER OF DEATH is an intimate documentary, which attempts to analyze the relationship of people and environment, work and history through the oral history, passed on from generation to generation. A picture of what is left, in fact and in the imagination of the surviving population in the cities, villages, quilombos (the hiding place of negro fugitive and rebel slaves) and indian villages at »Rio das Mortes«, a gold mining front in the Brasilian Province of Minas Gerais. By juxtaposing the confidents of the descendants of negro slaves, indian aborigines and white colonials the rich and complex history of a cultural landscape is unfolded.
