The shooting took place in the Saging Hills in Upper Myanmar, which is twelve miles west across the Irrawaddy River from the ancient capital Mandalay. Over 10000 monks and nuns live there, comprising one of the largest monastic communities in the world. KEEPERS OF THE FAITH is an intimate journey into the religious practices and everyday lives of the people in Myanmar (Burma) explored through the eyes of Buddhist nuns. The nuns stand in-between the religious and the secular and play a vital role in mediating the two worlds. The nunnery is also an important meeting place, providing solace and sanctuary to the people who have suffered brutal oppression and disruption.
